Tula has been a soloist with" The Newington Youth Ballet " for the past four years captivating audiences with her unique gift of dancing and bringing a wide range of characters to life . In addition to her accomplishments with Newington Youth Ballet, Tula has had the honor of being named "Teen Miss Sophisticated Productions "and National Champion two years in a row, "Teen Miss Dancer's INC," First Overall Winner and convention scholarship recipient, Overall High Score Winner for " I Love Dance" and best in show," Teen Miss World Class Talent Competition"," Teen Miss Royal Dance Competition", "Teen Improvisation Winner Royal Dance Competition" Scholarship Recipient The Joffery Ballet and most recently has been signed to the renowned " McDonald Selznick Associates Agency in NYC.
Gianna has been a soloist with " The Newington Youth Ballet" for the past nine years where she has impressed audiences with her exceptional dancing, grace and poise. Gianna has won numerous national competition titles and has received numerous scholarships and recognition with "The Joffery Ballet" and many top national dance conventions. Most recently, Gianna has been personally invited to be a Pro-Reveler Assistant with one of the top dance conventions in the country, "Revel".
Amanda Butler, M.A. - Assistant Director
Amanda is a native of Newington. She received her training in Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Jazz and Hip Hop at Northeast School of Performing Arts, Northeast Youth Ballet, Steps and Broadway Dance Center. Amanda's professional credits include dancing as a soloist with Northeast Youth Ballet as well as featured roles with Ballet Atlantic in NY and Dance Central. Amanda's choreography for competitions has been very well received with her dancers being offered scholarships and winning top awards and titles. Amanda has won numerous choreography awards for her unique style and passionate choreography. In addition to her advanced degrees in Psychology and School Counseling, Amanda minored in theater and has appeared on MTV:S " The Real World". Amanda was also in " The Adjustment Bureau" with Matt Damon and Emily Blunt in addition to several independent projects including starring in the Indie film "30 Minutes To Swim".
Jane Levin, B.A. - Director
Jane Levin hails from Yonkers, N.Y. and is now proud to call Newington her home for the past 29 years. Jane received her training at The School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theater, The Joffery Ballet, Vera Nemptchinova School of Ballet, Steps, and Broadway Dance Center. She has performed with The New York City Ballet and was a soloist with Ballet Atlantic in addition to performing at The Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center and The Encore Dinner Theater. Many of Jane's students have been accepted into the prestigious Rock School of The Pennsylvania Ballet, School of The Chicago City Ballet and The JKO School of American Ballet Theater as well as the distinguished dance programs of S.U.N.Y at Purchase, Marymount College, Pace University, Point Park College and Dean College many on full scholarship. In addition to working with dancers from "Dance Moms" and "Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition" many other students Jane has trained have also danced professionally with American Ballet Theater, The Royal Ballet of London, have been featured on "So You Think You Can Dance", have appeared on numerous commercials, webisodes, television shows including the hit Nickelodeon show "Lazy Town", stared as Clara in Radio City's " Christmas Spectacular" and the Broadway production "Newsies" , Cats and Cinderella.
Newington Dance Center combines scientific principles with elements from the classic French, Italian and Russian schools of training with a focus on the method developed by George Balanchine, founder of The New York City Ballet, to ensure proper alignment, agility, classical technique, musicality, and terminology. Ballet is the foundation of all other forms of dance.
Pointe work, or dancing on your toes, is designed for the more advanced dancer who demonstrates strength, proper technique and correct alignment. All dancers must be enrolled in ballet classes to attend point classes. Due to the nature of this type of dance, classes are not determined by age, but by skill level.
This style of dancing blends elements of ballet, jazz and modern together. Class begins with a warm-up and stretching with the remainder of the class focusing on choreography.
Jazz dance encompasses a broad range of dance styles from Broadway to music videos. Various styles of famous choreographers will also be featured.
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive movement that combines several dance genres including modern, lyrical, jazz, and ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and body through fluid dance movements.
Everyone can benefit from dancing. For pre-schoolers, , Dance Foundations offers a range of experiences that facilitate self-esteem, creativity, proper development of alignment, neurological coordination and a fundamental exploration of baseline concepts that are the building blocks for future learning.
